The Department of Biotechnology was established in 2001. It offers a restructured course with a combination of botany and chemistry (B. Sc.,- Bt. B. C) as English is the medium of instruction. From 2023-24, students can choose biotechnology as minor subject (shift from three majors to single major system). Well-equipped laboratory is the characteristic feature of the department. The faculty has received research grant from UGC in 2015 which helped to get equipment for laboratory. The Department conducted a UGC-sponsored one day National Workshop on recombinant DNA (rDNA) technology on 21st February 2015 and Two-day lecture workshop was organized with the support of the Science academies on 19th and 20th January 2023 on “Recent Trends in Genetics”.
