Government College for Men Kadapa popularly known as Government. Arts College is a prestigious College in Kadapa Dist. The Department of Sanskrit has its existence since 1948. The Department is functioning with one faculty member and 500 above students. Here Sanskrit is being taught as second language. Previously eminent Sanskrit Lecturers Smt.Lakshmi, Sri. NookalarayaSharma, Sri. Bharata Sharma, Sri.Chalapathi, Sri. Masthan, Sri.B.Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Sri. S. Subbarayudu. For the academic year 2012-2013 onwards autonomy was sanctioned to our college. Accordingly the board of studies meets every year in the beginning of the academic year and previous the syllabus and the question papers to enhance the academic standards Dr.T.Venkatewralu Lecturer in Sanskrit joined in the Department 8/7/2017. From the academic year 2014-2015 CBCS is introduced Degree 1-year students more than 80% of the students are from rural areas and the remaining are from urban environment. Some of the students are opting Sanskrit as second language though they have not studied Sanskrit in the previous classes. For those students the Department is conducting Bridge Course to bring to the main stream. Socio economic conditions are also having the impact on the standard of the students even then efforts are being made and they are being trained by adopting modern teaching methodologies and educational technologies by which most of the students getting benefited. Average percent of the passes is about 95% and necessary steps are being taken achieve 100% for these remedial coaching classes are conducted. The Department is provided with separate staff room and a computer system. Most of the students are from Kadapa Dist. the economically backward areas the Department has been following the syllabus prescribed by BOS council as for the guidelines under the autonomous system. Students’ studies Sanskrit as second language of above 95. The progression of the students also observed to be promising.
