About the Department
The Department of Zoology, established in 1948, is one of the most prestigious and well-established departments of the college. Over the years, it has earned a reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and academic development in the field of life sciences.
The department has been enriched by the services of eminent academicians such as Sri Jamme Konete Rao, Smt. Vanamala Naidu, Sri S. M. Basha, and Sri M. C. Venkata Subbaiah, whose contributions have significantly strengthened its academic standing.
The department has two well-equipped laboratories with modern instruments and facilities for teaching, practical training, and research. Financial assistance received under the DBT Scheme, Government of India, enabled the procurement of advanced laboratory equipment, enhancing research and learning opportunities for students.
The department is staffed by highly qualified and experienced faculty members committed to academic excellence, scientific inquiry, and research. The faculty have been recognized with State Best Teacher Awards and have received several prestigious awards and honors from reputed national and international scientific organizations for their outstanding contributions to teaching, research, and extension activities.
To meet the growing demand for higher education, the department introduced the M.Sc. Zoology programme in 2005–06. The programme is a self-financed course affiliated with Yogi Vemana University. In keeping with emerging trends in animal sciences, B.Sc. Dairy Science was introduced from the academic year 2025–26, offering students valuable knowledge and promising career opportunities in the dairy and animal husbandry sectors.
